Primitive primate brain

27 Jun

Two Fridays ago we let Wally sleep on the bed with us Fri and Sat night. Sunday night we decided against it, being a work night, so we put him in his crate as usual. Only it wasn’t usual, because he spent 30min wailing and crying like an sexed up howler monkey. The only way to stop the insanity was to put him on the bed or in the x-pen downstairs. Since we thought he was being the Little Prince and acting spoiled we didn’t want to give him the reward of the bed, so downstairs he went. Where he was quiet. This happened all week long.

Finally on Sat night it occurred to me that he might just be hot. This had happened before but the solution had been to simply turn on the fan and lift the towel from the front of his crate. That hadn’t worked this time so it didn’t immediately occur to me that dying of heat might be the issue. I mean, here I am complaining about how hot it is at night (which is weird b/c it’s probably only 55C) and I don’t even have fur.

So Sat night I traded his fleece dog bed for a couple folded blankets and voila! All night sleeping with no whining. I felt pretty dumb that it took me a week to figure this out.

Don’t feel bad! We canines know you humans are the inferior species and make allowances. Sandy
